Engineer

Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2019

Engineer is the annual technical fest of NITK Surathkal held around September. Amidst the energetic environment of a technical fest, there is also an opportunity where you can just slow down and appreciate the finer things. Here’s where Artists’ Forum NITK come in. We deck up the Main Building with a life sized 3D decor which represents our interpretation of the fest’s theme. Representing themes in a creative manner is quite a challenging process. After initial brainstorming meets the work picks up pace and we spend a lot of days and sometimes even nights trying to conceptualize our ideas. If you asked anyone who works for the fest, the preparation leading to the fest is as fun if not more fun than the actual fest itself. Engineer provides an opportunity to the members of AF to combine their love for science and art to create a wonderful decor!

Incident

Date: Sun, 01 Mar 2020

It wouldn’t be wrong to claim that the fondest college memories of any NITK student or graduate were made during our annual cultural fest Incident or Inci as we NITKians like to call it. These 4-5 days are arguably the best in the entire year. However, to NITKians, Incident has more than what meets the eyes of a commoner. Behind the 4 day spectacle that we host every year, lies days and nights of work in preparation for the event. Everything starting right from the marketing, publicity, artist line-up, competitions, talks, performances, tournaments to campus deco and exhibitions is organized by our very own students. We at the Artists Forum NITK take on a major campus decor. We deck out the main lobby area of the main building with a life size 3D display of our interpretation of the theme.

Diwali

Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2019

Celebrating festivals in college is a bittersweet experience. Bitter, as this a time when I really miss my family and all the delicious festival food I’ll be missing out on. But, college is my second home and my friends are my chosen family. When you celebrate festivals in college you get a wonderful opportunity to understand how different people celebrate the same festival in quite different ways. Everyone has their own version of “ghar ki diwali” ( diwali celebrated at home). Irrespective of our different versions of diwali the entire college comes together as one to celebrate it. There is a large pooja held in the sports complex and members of Artists’ Forum take up the responsibility of making the rangolis and floral arrangements for the pooja. We also clean the AF room up and decorate with beautiful diyas and lanterns. Once the pooja is done, the members congregate in the AF room so we can celebrate our own “AF-wali-diwali”. Here are a few pictures of how we celebrate Diwali at college, we’d love to celebrate it with you in the future!

TEDx

Date: Wed, 08 Jan 2020

Flashing lights. A full audience. You could hear the students talk faintly amongst themselves, looking up at the stage in awe. From the golden lights loosely hung across the hall to the decor crafted specifically to align with the year's TEDx theme. While the rest of the students were just waiting for the night to start, our team from the Artists Forum stood at the back of the hall staring at our creation. Our night just got over. From open discussions in the AF room and finalising an idea that resonates with the TEDx theme of the year, to running to buy the material last minute and working together to make the decor, however hectic that sounds, that was our favourite part. The students of NITK all push against each other, the hall too crowded to make room for anyone else. Just a few hours before, our team, from first year AF juniors to experienced final years, were running through the empty hall, trying to set everything up perfectly.

Dreamscape workshop

Date: Wed, 08 Nov 2023

Artists’ Forum NITK hosted its special Dreamcatcher Workshop, a pre-ArtBEat event on 8th November 2023. It was a fun event where students of Artists' Forum taught first-year students how to make dreamcatchers. Not only did students learn a new skill, but they also got to make friends with each other and with the seniors. During the workshop, club members patiently showed the new students how to create dreamcatchers from scratch. Everyone worked together, chatting and laughing as they made beautiful crafts. It was a great way for new students to feel welcome and get a taste of the Artists’ Forum

Artbeat 2023

Date: Thu, 09 Nov 2023

ArtBeat is Artists Forum's annual event held exclusively for first years. It is an event that aims to create a fun and comfortable environment for the freshers to get to know the club, their peers, the college culture, and the seniors through interactive sessions, workshops, and games. This year, ArtBeat took place on November 9th 2023, at the NITK pavilion, embracing the whimsical theme of a fair. Teams of five participated in a diverse array of games, including classic carnival attractions like ping pong ball toss and puzzles, alongside innovative activities such as a drawing-based spin on the game of telephone and "guess the famous person." To further enhance the experience, a leaderboard was introduced where teams could leave their handprints upon completing all tasks, fostering a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. The event was accompanied by lively music, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere and ensuring an engaging and memorable experience for all participants. Through ArtBeat, first-year students not only had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the spirit of the club but also to forge lasting connections and create cherished memories with their peers and seniors
